Re-imagining Higher Education for Refugees
By leveraging the collective expertise of academic institutions and non-academic actors worldwide, we have developed a large scale, coordinated approach to delivering internationally recognised higher education courses and degrees for refugees, displaced learners, and their host communities.
At its core, this initiative is about building an innovative and sustainable model that works. It places displaced communities at the centre, strengthens local and national institutions, and mobilises international partners with proven expertise to deliver effective higher education solutions in contexts of displacement.

Closing the Higher Education Gap
Online and blended learning models have connected millions of students worldwide to higher education, and several programmes have successfully designed innovative ways to offer crucial elements, such as personalised academic and psychosocial support, peer and group learning, and relevant methods and content. The Global University Academy is building upon these achievements, acknowledging that quality higher education for displaced learners must go beyond extending mere access.
The overarching problem that the GUA addresses is the lack of access to quality higher education and lifelong learning opportunities for most of the world’s refugees and displaced people.
